CHICAGO, Feb. 7, 2024 ~ Wilson Sporting Goods Co. has made a groundbreaking announcement today with the release of their latest innovation - the Wilson Airless Gen1™ basketball. This first-of-its-kind 3D-printed basketball eliminates the need for inflation and promises to revolutionize the game.
Following the success of last year's Airless Prototype debut, Wilson is now offering a limited-edition version of the Airless Gen1 for purchase starting on February 16th. This highly anticipated release has been met with excitement and anticipation from both sports enthusiasts and technology enthusiasts alike.
According to Kevin Murphy, General Manager of Team Sports at Wilson, the company was inspired by the overwhelming response to their Airless Prototype and knew it was time to bring this rare innovation to the world. "Wilson has gone where no brand has gone before with the release of the Airless Gen1 basketball, further inspiring the next generation of sports innovation," said Murphy.
The Wilson Airless Gen1 boasts similar functionality to its prototype counterpart, but over the past year, the Wilson Labs team has made improvements to increase performance and streamline manufacturing processes. The ball meets most regulation basketball specifications in terms of weight, size, and rebound (bounce). While it is designed for play, it is also a coveted technology-infused product that will appeal to both innovation enthusiasts and basketball fans.

Some notable updates to the Wilson Airless Gen1 include an upgraded lattice design for more consistent performance and bounce, as well as holes integrated within channels to speed up manufacturing without sacrificing its airless feature. Each ball also comes with a built-in label for customization and features a unique production number.
In addition to its recognizable jet-black colorway, the Airless Gen1 will also be available in brown and natural white. The Wilson Labs team worked closely with key partners such as General Lattice for computational design services, DyeMansion for color and finishing solutions, EOS for technical oversight and mass production guidance, and SNL Creative as the primary manufacturing hub for this launch.
The Wilson Airless Gen1 will be available exclusively on Wilson.com starting on February 16th for $2,500. Fans can also experience the product in person at Wilson's on-site activation at NBA Crossover in Indianapolis from February 16th to 18th.
