~ Bloomington's Planning and Transportation Department is seeking input from residents on potential safety and improvement plans for Indiana Avenue. This initiative was prompted by concerns raised through a recent community survey, which gathered feedback from approximately 250 individuals on ways to enhance the corridor.
According to the survey results, only 43% of residents feel safe while traveling along Indiana Avenue, and less than 20% of bicyclists feel a sense of security. In response to these findings, the department has proposed two concepts to address these safety concerns.
The first concept involves converting one motor vehicle lane into a protected bike lane. This would provide a designated space for cyclists and potentially reduce the risk of accidents with motor vehicles. The second concept suggests converting the road from East Atwater Avenue through East 10th Street into a two-way street. This change could improve traffic flow and potentially increase safety for all road users.

Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on these proposed concepts by completing an online survey at bton.in/inave. The survey will be open until Sunday, August 4th. Additionally, a third public meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 13th at 5:30 p.m. at the Sample Gates for further design review and feedback.
For more information on this project, individuals can contact the Planning and Transportation Department at 812-349-3423 or visit the City of Bloomington's project webpage at bton.in/inave. The department is committed to addressing community concerns and creating a safer environment for all who utilize Indiana Avenue.
