~ Bloomington, IN- Mayor Kerry Thomson of the City of Bloomington has announced the appointment of Katherine Zaiger as the new City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) Director. This decision comes after John Langley's retirement and Zaiger's successful tenure as Interim Director since May 6.
Zaiger has been a part of CBU since 2021, initially joining as the MS4 Coordinator before taking on the role of Assistant Director of Environmental Programs in 2022. In this position, she oversaw environmental compliance for multiple facilities including the Monroe Water Treatment Plant, CBU Service Center, and both Blucher Poole and Dillman Wastewater Treatment Plants. Her responsibilities also included managing the City's MS4, Pretreatment, Hazardous Materials, and Water Quality Programs.

Mayor Thomson praised Zaiger's contributions to CBU and the City as a whole, stating that her solutions-oriented and customer-focused approach has greatly benefited both entities. With her extensive knowledge and skills within the department, Mayor Thomson is confident that Zaiger will continue to lead CBU with excellence.
Zaiger brings a wealth of experience to her new role with a Master's degree in Natural Resource Ecology and Management from Oklahoma State University and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Indiana University. She is also a Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP) and a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC). In addition to her time at CBU, Zaiger has five years of experience in restoration ecology.
