The City of Bloomington Issues Call for Local Artists for the Sixth Annual Bloomington Black y Brown Arts Festival

~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington has announced the opening of applications for the Sixth Annual Bloomington Black y Brown Arts Festival (BYB). The festival, which aims to celebrate and showcase the talents of local artists of color, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Switchyard Park Pavilion.

According to Shatoyia Moss, director of Community and Family Resources at the City of Bloomington, the festival's main goal is to deepen art appreciation and create a welcoming space for people of color in the community. "By engaging the audience with artists and their work, the festival enhances Bloomington's spirit of inclusion," says Moss.

Supported by various departments within the City of Bloomington including the Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs, Community and Family Resources Department, and Parks and Recreation Department, this free event is open to all ages and will feature a visual arts exhibition in the pavilion as well as a performance showcase on stage. Food trucks will also be available for purchase.

Artists who identify as African, African-American, Hispanic, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander or Indigenous American are encouraged to apply. They can exhibit visual art or craft and perform dance, music, spoken word or other art forms. In addition to showcasing their talents at the festival, artists will also have the opportunity to sell their artworks or merchandise at the venue.

Interested artists can apply online at bloomington.in.gov/byb by submitting an image or recording of their work along with a biography and headshot. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, Aug. 25 with a non-refundable entry fee of $10 required to reserve a space for selling their work.
