~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington's Commission on the Status of Black Males (CSBM) is hosting its fifth annual Black Male Youth Summit on Thursday, Sept. 12 at City Hall. The event, themed "Elements of Empowerment: Using Black Excellence to Elevate Self/Community," aims to empower middle and high school-aged males by recognizing their strengths and achievements.
The summit will feature a lineup of esteemed speakers, including Dr. Dhakir Mubarak Abdullah, a scholar focused on the Black Studies Movement at Indiana University Bloomington; Corey Andrews, a Regional Vice President and advocate for financial literacy; and Frederick Yeakey, Chief Partnership Officer at Providence Cristo Rey High School. These speakers will share their experiences and insights on education, community building, and financial literacy.

In addition to the speaker series, the summit will also include workshops, a pizza lunch, and opportunities for participants to engage with members of the CSBM. The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) is partnering with the city to excuse registered students from classes so they can attend the event.
Registration for the summit is free but required by Tuesday, Sept. 10 at bloomington.in.gov/csbm. This year's summit aims to provide a supportive space for students of color to express themselves, connect with community leaders, and access resources tailored to their specific needs.
