~ Bloomington's Engineering Department has announced the upcoming closure of Rogers Street at the 1st Street intersection as part of the 1st Street Reconstruction Project. The closure is set to begin on August 12th and is expected to last until early October.
According to city officials, the closure is necessary in order to facilitate major improvements to the roadway and the installation of a new water main on 1st Street across the Rogers Street intersection. This closure will also coincide with the creation of a new intersection at Rogers Street and University Street as part of the Hopewell East project, in an effort to minimize disruptions for commuters.

The 1st Street Reconstruction Project aims to enhance the infrastructure and safety of 1st Street, between Fairview Street and College Avenue. With over $4.6 million in federal construction funding, this project will not only benefit the community in the long run but also support the redevelopment of the Hopewell neighborhood.
The project includes a full reconstruction of the roadway, as well as upgrades and replacements for water, storm sewer, and sanitary sewer infrastructure. Additionally, tree plots will be added to separate the road from sidewalks on both sides of 1st Street, along with other enhancements that align with a Neighborhood Greenway route.
For updates and more information on this project, residents are encouraged to visit Bloomington's official website or contact the Engineering Department directly at engineering@bloomington.in.gov or 812-349-3913. The city urges commuters to plan ahead for potential delays during this closure period.
