~ South Bend, IN- On January 26, 2024, Mayor James Mueller announced the appointment of Katrina Lee as the new Executive Director of the Human Rights Commission. Lee will officially begin her role on January 29.
In a statement, Mayor Mueller expressed his excitement for Lee's appointment, stating that she brings a wealth of experience and a strong passion for equality and justice to the team. He looks forward to working with her to build a fairer and more just city.
Lee, who was born in Memphis, TN but has lived in South Bend for most of her life, is no stranger to the community. She graduated from Riley High School and went on to earn an Associate's degree in paralegal studies from Indiana University South Bend and a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Management from Bethel University. She is also married to Darrick Lee Sr. and has three sons and four granddaughters.

With 32 years of experience at Saint Joseph Health System, Lee brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role. For 26 years, she served as the Director of Legal, Integrity and Privacy in the Legal and Compliance Department. She also conducted investigations and provided compliance and HIPAA training. During her time at SJHS, she chaired various committees such as Integrity and Compliance Committee, Providers Compliance Onboarding Committee, and co-chaired the Diversity Council Committee. Additionally, she completed SJHS's management program and Trinity Health's Leadership mentor program.
Lee expressed her excitement about joining the team at the Human Rights Commission as their new Director. She stated that she is eager to serve the community as a champion for equality and plans to work towards creating meaningful change for the residents of South Bend and St. Joseph County.
With her extensive experience and dedication to promoting equality, Katrina Lee is sure to make a positive impact on the Human Rights Commission team as they continue their mission towards creating a fairer society for all.
