~ South Bend, Indiana - On November 20, 2024, Mayor James Mueller and other city and council leaders gathered to commemorate the completion of the LaSalle Park project with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The park, which has undergone extensive renovations, is now a shining example of community collaboration and investment.
Mayor Mueller expressed his excitement for the park's reopening, stating that it is a valuable asset to both the neighborhood and the South Bend community as a whole. He also highlighted the importance of ensuring the park's safety for residents by conducting environmental work before its reconstruction.
The project was made possible by Mayor Mueller's commitment to funding after receiving input from the community in 2021. With support from the Common Council and Redevelopment Commission, over $2.1 million was invested in this project.
The work on LaSalle Park began in August 2023 and was completed earlier this year after successful remediation by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The park now boasts several new features, including improved footpaths that connect to existing pedestrian routes and surrounding neighborhoods. A unique sloped roller skating loop has also been added, along with an additional pavilion and picnic area for large events and family gatherings.

Jordan Gathers, Executive Director of Venues Parks & Arts, expressed his delight at seeing LaSalle Park transformed into a space that promotes connectivity and inclusivity. He noted that this project reflects their commitment to creating a vibrant community for all residents of South Bend.
The completion of LaSalle Park is not only a cause for celebration but also a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together with determination and vision. With its new amenities and improved accessibility, LaSalle Park is sure to be a beloved gathering place for years to come.
