In its ninth year, run/walk event will raise funds for four local nonprofits
LAFAYETTE, Ind. - IndianaStop -- Registration for the Subaru 5K on June 15 is now open at subaru5k.com. In its ninth year, the run/walk fundraiser will benefit four local nonprofits.
Organized by Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA), the family-friendly community event takes place on the grounds of the SIA Recreation Center—which was designated as a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation in 2002. The course includes grassy areas, wooded trails and paved surfaces.
In addition to a new name and returning to a summer date, changes include:
* No longer a 'Color Run'
* Exclusively in-person (No virtual option)
* Reduced entry fees
* Each participant chooses one of four local nonprofits to receive their entry fee as a donation
Since its inception, the Subaru 5K has raised more than $265,000 for nonprofits. This year's beneficiaries, aligned with The Subaru Love Promise core pillars, are:
* Pets: Humane Society for Greater Lafayette
* Earth: NICHES Land Trust
* Learning: Multiplying Good / Students in Action

* Help: Mental Health America (Wabash Valley Region)
The cost is $25 for individuals age 13 and older, and $20 for children age 12 and younger. Participants will receive a T-shirt in the color representing the Subaru Love Promise organization they support during registration, along with a finisher medal. To guarantee shirt size, registration must be completed by May 23. The final registration deadline is June 12 at 8 p.m., and will not be available on race day.
In addition to registering, participants can use the website to recruit family and friends to join their team or donate. Awards are given for the largest team and top individual fundraiser. For competitive 5K runners, awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finisher, as well as the top male and female finisher in seven different age categories.
Along with the SIA Foundation, Zeigler Subaru of Lafayette is a proud sponsor.
