They also serve up juicy hamburger steak, and crispy pork cutlets made with Tochigi's Nasu-gunji pork. Other dishes include Nikko's famous yuba (tofu-skin), and sashimi and fish carpaccio, made from regionally farmed Yashio trout. Counter seats showcase Japanese garden views with the Nikko mountains in the background.
About the City of Nikko
Located about 90 miles north of Tokyo, the city of Nikko is a popular destination for tourists from Japan and abroad. Nikko's Two Shrines and One Temple -- Nikko Tosho-gu, the mausoleum of the first Tokugawa shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu; Futarasan Shrine founded in 782; and Rinno-ji Temple, founded in 766 -- were together registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. The full UNESCO site includes a complex of 103 structures -- 9 National Treasures and 94 Important Cultural Properties. Beyond the city, lies the area known as "Oku-Nikko" (Deep Nikko), rich in natural beauty -- featuring Kegon Waterfalls, Lake Chuzenji, Mount Nantai, and the Senjōgahara marshland. The scenic charm is such that since the late 1800s, ambassadors from Europe and the United States established villas here. Tobu Railway also sells the Nikko Pass which includes discount admission to Nikko attractions and transportation between Tokyo and Nikko and unlimited local bus rides in the Nikko area.
