~ In a joint announcement today, the City of Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern Schools revealed a new interlocal agreement that will result in a significant investment in local athletic facilities and youth sports programming. This partnership aims to expand access, enhance facilities, and strengthen alignment between school and community athletics.
According to Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness, "Sports are part of the fabric of our community. From youth leagues to high school athletics, these programs help make Fishers one of the best places in the country to live." He believes that this investment will build upon their longstanding collaboration with HSE Schools and ensure that their facilities can keep up with the growing demand for youth sports.
The City of Fishers will be investing approximately $3.6 million in improvements to athletic fields at Fishers High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School. These upgrades will benefit not only student-athletes but also youth sports organizations and the broader community. The improvements include one new artificial turf field with lighting at each high school, upgrades to existing natural grass fields through aeration and top dressing, and the construction of a pedestrian crosswalk connecting Sand Creek Intermediate School to Fishers High School.

Interim superintendent Dr. Matt Kegley of Hamilton Southeastern Schools expressed his gratitude for the city's continued desire to partner with them. He stated, "Our partnership with the City of Fishers has always focused on finding ways to better serve students and the community." Dr. Kegley believes that this initiative will align school athletics, youth programs, and community resources while expanding opportunities for young athletes.
These improvements are designed to support increased participation, improved field conditions, and expanded opportunities for competitions and tournaments. They are part of an overall reinvestment in athletic fields throughout Fishers, including those at park properties.
As part of this agreement, a new administration-level position will be created at HSE Schools to oversee all athletic fields within the city. The City & District Athletic Director will work closely with the city, the school district, and local sports organizations to maximize the use of athletic facilities throughout the community. Jim Self, longtime Hamilton Southeastern High School Athletic Director, has been approved for this position and will begin on May 1, 2026.
