Fishers: Mayor Scott Fadness names director for new community center

~ Fishers, IN- Mayor Scott Fadness has announced the appointment of Mike Lindbloom as the director of Fishers' first-ever community center. The 105,000-square-foot facility, located at Hoosier Road and 121st Street, is set to open next fall and will serve as a dynamic community hub.

Mayor Fadness expressed his excitement for this next step in the development of the Fishers Community Center. He stated, "I'm excited as we take the next step toward opening the Fishers Community Center with a solid leader who embodies our culture of health initiative and embraces our vision for Fishers' next chapter." He also added that Lindbloom's years of experience in leadership and supporting others in achieving their health and fitness goals make him the perfect fit for this role.

The new community center will support Fishers' Culture of Health initiative, which is dedicated to fostering a healthier community for residents of all ages. It will offer a variety of amenities such as an indoor walking track and playground, aquatics facility, gymnasium with basketball, pickleball, and volleyball courts, a three-acre dog park, fitness and wellness center, Sahm's Community Café, Fishers Health Department clinic and offices, Outside the Box adult day program, and more.

Lindbloom brings over 15 years of experience in the health and fitness sector to his new role. He has spent most of his career managing facility operations and most recently served as executive director of the Shelby County YMCA and MHP Community Wellness Center. Prior to that, he held positions at both the Fishers YMCA and Ransburg YMCA as well as serving as a wellness director at the Fishers YMCA. Lindbloom also worked as a physical activity specialist at the Indiana State Department of Health where he partnered with communities throughout Indiana to improve health and reduce obesity through work on built environments and bicycle-friendly community planning. He holds a master's degree in exercise science from Miami University and a bachelor's degree in recreation from Truman State University.

Lindbloom, who has been a resident of Fishers since 2006, expressed his excitement for the new community center. He stated, "I am extremely excited to see the Fishers Community Center taking shape. The Fishers Community Center will be a tremendous community asset that provides an inclusive space that promotes health, community, and wellness for both residents and non-residents." He also believes that providing high-quality recreational experiences plays a major role in helping the community continue to thrive.

One of Lindbloom's immediate priorities is hiring a Membership Manager to focus on membership acquisition and retention. Memberships will be available for purchase for both residents and non-residents beginning in early 2025. However, memberships will not be required for access to the indoor walking track, indoor playground, and Sahm's Community Café.
