~ The city of Evansville is buzzing with excitement as plans for a new playground at Garvin Park have been announced by the Department of Parks & Recreation. This project, which is the first step in creating an Activity Zone within the park, will feature new safety surfacing and is expected to bring new life to the beloved space.
Funded by the $24 million Parks Bond that was passed late last year, this project is part of the Garvin Park Master Plan designed by Hafer & Associates. The plan also includes future phases such as basketball courts, a new restroom building, and a new shelter, all made possible through the Parks Bond.
Renderings of the new playground have been attached to the press release, giving residents a glimpse of what's to come. Mayor Stephanie Terry expressed her excitement for this project, stating that Garvin Park has been a special part of the city for generations and this is just the beginning of bringing new life to it. She also emphasized the importance of safe and beautiful parks for families to gather and make memories.

Executive Director Danielle Crook shared her enthusiasm for this project, stating that it encourages exploration and provides a safe space for imaginative play. She also mentioned that as they continue to move forward with improving parks across the city, they hope to create unique and innovative spaces that will encourage residents to visit multiple parks frequently.
