Evansville, Ind. ~ Evansville, Ind. - The City of Evansville has been recognized for its exceptional budgeting practices by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The city received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2026 budget, marking the first time it has received national recognition.
According to GFOA officials, award recipients are leaders in improving budgeting standards and serve as an example for other governments in North America. The award specifically recognizes budget documents that effectively function as a financial plan, operational guide, policy document, and communication tool.
Mayor Stephanie Terry expressed her pride in the city's achievement and credited the hard work of the team responsible for developing and preparing the budget. She also emphasized the importance of transparency and responsible financial management in ensuring the city's success.
To further promote transparency, the City of Evansville will be hosting a Community Budget Forum on April 2, 2026 at McCollough Library. The forum will provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about how their tax dollars are being used and how the annual budget process works. City officials will also be available to answer any questions from attendees.

In addition to city officials, representatives from Accelerating Indiana Municipalities (Aim) will also be present at the forum to discuss how recent actions by the Indiana General Assembly have impacted local government revenue streams across the state.
City Controller Robert Gunter praised the collaborative efforts of Mayor Terry, City Council members, and all departments involved in the budget process. He emphasized that their goal is not only to responsibly manage finances but also to make information easily accessible for residents to understand how decisions are made and where resources are allocated.
A complete list of award recipients can be found on GFOA's website. Residents are encouraged to attend the April 2 forum to gain a better understanding of Evansville's finances and how city resources support services and community priorities.
