~ Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry is inviting the community to join in celebrating the City of Evansville on 812 Day next week. The city, alongside the Evansville Flag Group and numerous local businesses, will be hosting a series of events on Monday, August 12 (8/12) to promote community pride.
The festivities will kick off at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Civic Center (1 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.), where Mayor Terry will join the Evansville Flag Group in raising the new City of Evansville flag for the first time. This flag was adopted by City Council earlier this year after a contest was held to design a new city flag.
Following the flag raising ceremony, Mayor Terry and officials from various city departments will head to Jacobsville to launch a new Block-by-Block initiative. This initiative aims to improve the neighborhood through social service, code enforcement, and community policing efforts. Starting at 10:00 a.m., city officials and community volunteers will meet at Hope City Church before walking several blocks of Jacobsville. They will go door-to-door, providing information on government services and building relationships with residents. Community police officers from the Evansville Police Department will also be present to connect with residents and offer assistance. Additionally, everyone present will participate in cleaning up trash, cutting grass, conducting minor tree trimming, and other tasks to beautify the neighborhood.
