City of Bloomington Volunteer Network Invites Community to Be the Change with 100,000 Volunteer Hours Challenge

Trending...
~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington is calling on its residents to join the Bloomington Volunteer Network (CBVN) in their latest and most ambitious volunteer challenge yet. The CBVN Be The Change 100,000 Volunteer Hours Challenge aims to complete an unprecedented 100,000 hours of volunteer service with local nonprofits and community groups between January 1st and December 31st, 2026.

Residents are encouraged to create a free account on the Bloomington Volunteer Network website and start logging their volunteer hours with their favorite local organizations. The campaign's progress will be tracked on the CBVN's Volunteer Impact Page, which will also feature a leader board recognizing the top organizations and individual volunteers who have logged the most hours. The progress of the challenge will also be celebrated at two major events- the City's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration in January and the annual Be More Awards in April.

The CBVN is proud to partner with various organizations such as City of Bloomington Parks & Recreation, City of Bloomington Housing & Neighborhood Development, IUCorps, Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, and Nonprofit Alliance to further inspire, support, and celebrate volunteerism across the community.

Participating in this challenge is simple- residents can follow these steps: set up an account on the Bloomington Volunteer Network website, choose from hundreds of volunteer opportunities (both recurring and episodic), and log their hours using their account after completing a volunteer shift.

The organization, volunteer group, and top three individual volunteers who log the most hours in 2026 will be honored at the 2027 Be More Awards.

Established in 1980 as the "Bloomington Volunteer Action Center" by then-Mayor Frank McCloskey, the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network's mission is to inspire, support, and celebrate volunteerism in our community. It connects volunteers of all ages with opportunities to serve and provides resources to volunteers and agencies to build creative and effective volunteer projects, programs, and partnerships.
