~ At the annual meeting of the Indiana MS4 Partnership in Plainfield, the City of Bloomington Utilities Department (CBU) and Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) were recognized for their collaborative efforts on the Maker Challenge 2023-24. This year's challenge focused on stormwater and aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection and sustainability.
Kriste Lindberg, CBU's Stormwater Education Specialist, expressed her satisfaction with the partnership, stating that it is a "comprehensive and proactive" collaboration that benefits both parties. She also highlighted how the program directly contributes to improving stormwater quality and quantity while also promoting a sense of community ownership.
The Indiana MS4 Partnership provides guidance and information for stormwater permittees in Indiana, as mandated by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. During their meeting on May 14th, the partnership presented CBU and MCCSC staff with the Award of Excellence for Partnership-Special Event 2023-2024 for their work on the 4th Grade Maker Challenge. This challenge involved all 4th grade classes in MCCSC creating prototypes to prevent pollution, flooding, and erosion. The students also wrote letters to their elected officials advocating for environmental protection.
