~ The City of Bloomington is considering a new location for the Bloomington Police Department (BPD) headquarters, with the building at 714 South Rogers Street emerging as the top choice. This recommendation was announced during a public meeting on Monday, January 27, where city officials outlined the various advantages of this site for the police department.
One of the main reasons cited for choosing this location is its potential for future expansion. The building offers ample space to accommodate any growth in the department's needs. Additionally, its central location and accessibility via public transit make it a convenient choice for both staff and community members.
The support of police staff and union members also played a significant role in selecting this site. Its sturdy construction makes it a strong contender for a secure and modern headquarters, meeting the department's requirements.

During their presentation, city officials also addressed previous proposals that were deemed less feasible. One such proposal was to relocate to Showers West, which was considered a short-term solution with limited room for expansion and lacked easy access to public transit. Another option was to expand the current headquarters, but this would require purchasing additional land and temporarily relocating the department during renovations. Moreover, ongoing issues such as flood damage and water infiltration made it an expensive choice.
While the Rogers Street location presents promising solutions, it does come with its own set of challenges. The interior of the building would need to be demolished and rebuilt to meet modern city standards. This project would also require developing a new design plan.
If approved, the city estimates that it would take approximately 18 months to complete the project at Rogers Street. For those interested in learning more about this proposal, they can view the slideshow presentation or watch the full public meeting presentation on catstv.net.
The City of Bloomington remains committed to providing a secure, functional, and accessible home for its police department to effectively serve and protect the community.
