~ Bloomington, a city known for its commitment to sustainability, has once again been recognized as a top leader in environmental transparency. This recognition comes from CDP, a global nonprofit organization that evaluates companies, capital markets, cities, states and regions on their environmental disclosure practices.
For the second year in a row, Bloomington has received an 'A' score from CDP for its disclosure efforts. This prestigious score is given to cities that demonstrate strong leadership in environmental transparency, climate action, and resilience planning. Out of the 738 cities evaluated by CDP in 2025, only 120 received an 'A' status. Bloomington's consistent recognition is a testament to the city's ongoing dedication to leadership, innovation and transparency in its climate and resilience planning and policies.
Shawn Miya, Assistant Director of Sustainability for Bloomington, expressed pride in the city's achievement stating, "Bloomington is proud to be recognized as one of the top sustainability leaders in the nation." He also highlighted the city's efforts to support residents, small businesses and nonprofits through grant and rebate programs that help turn ideas into tangible projects. These investments are crucial in helping Bloomington reach its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Earning a spot on CDP's A-List is no easy feat and reflects the highest standard of local climate leadership. To achieve this status, cities must publicly disclose their environmental practices through CDP-ICLEI Track - a climate reporting platform - and meet rigorous criteria. This includes conducting a city-wide emissions inventory, assessing climate risks and vulnerabilities, and publishing a comprehensive climate action plan.
Residents can learn more about Bloomington's sustainability efforts by exploring the City's Climate Action Dashboard. This online tool provides information on the city's emissions inventory, local climate risks and how they are being addressed through the Climate Action Plan. It also offers ways for individuals to contribute towards Bloomington's sustainability goals.
