~ The City of Bloomington is calling for volunteers to join in on a Downtown Community Cleanup Day on Monday, May 5. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and aims to prepare the downtown area for Indiana University's upcoming graduation weekend.
Led by city staff, the cleanup will focus on improving the overall appearance of public spaces by picking up litter, pulling weeds, and other maintenance tasks. Mayor Kerry Thomson will also be participating in this community effort, providing volunteers with the opportunity to work alongside her.
The day will be spearheaded by City staff and Brighten Bloomington crews, a Centerstone Job Placement Partnership with the City's Public Works department. These crews work year-round to assist with various maintenance tasks such as painting curbs, refreshing no-parking zones, cleaning storm drains, and maintaining tree plots.
