~ Bloomington Launches Detailed Access Guides to Improve Accessibility for All
The City of Bloomington has announced the launch of a new set of Detailed Access Guides, in partnership with local organization AccessAbleUSA. These guides aim to provide comprehensive accessibility information for 20 local destinations, including small independent businesses, cultural institutions, and essential community services.
This initiative, supported by the City's Economic and Sustainable Development Department (ESD), is a significant step towards closing the persistent information gap around accessibility. According to research conducted by AccessAbleUSA, 96 percent of people with disabilities look for accessibility information before visiting a location. However, in most cases, this information is either unavailable or incomplete. The Detailed Access Guides aim to bridge this gap by providing detailed and reliable accessibility information that is publicly available.
The guides offer objective and detailed descriptions of accessibility features at each location, allowing residents and visitors with disabilities of all types to make informed decisions and access Bloomington's businesses and public spaces with dignity and independence.
