~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington has announced a new initiative to support local businesses during the summer slowdown. Starting July 5, residents and visitors can take advantage of free on-street parking in the downtown area after 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
This move aims to increase foot traffic and patronage of local shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Mayor Kerry Thomson expressed her excitement for this initiative, stating that a downtown Bloomington summer is hard to match with its lively community atmosphere. However, she acknowledged the challenges faced by local businesses during this time and hopes that free parking will make it easier for people to come downtown and support them.

Residents and visitors will also have the opportunity to meet Mayor Thomson in an informal setting on July 5th and 27th from 5-7 p.m. at various locations around downtown. This event will allow participants to take photos with the Mayor, ask questions, and learn more about ongoing and upcoming city projects and services while supporting downtown together.
To stay updated on the locations where Mayor Thomson will be present, residents can follow the City of Bloomington's Office of the Mayor on social media for clues. For more information about this free parking initiative and other downtown events, individuals can visit the City's website or contact the Office of Economic and Sustainable Development.
This initiative is just one way that the City of Bloomington is working towards supporting its local businesses and creating a vibrant community for its residents. With free parking available throughout July on Friday and Saturday evenings, there is no better time to come downtown, explore, and enjoy all that Bloomington has to offer.
