~ The City of Bloomington has announced its plans for the 2024 Traffic Calming and Neighborhood Greenway projects, which aim to improve walking and bicycling connections throughout the city. These projects, prioritized by the Planning & Transportation Department, will go through a public outreach and design phase in the upcoming spring and summer.

One of the projects is the E Longview Ave Neighborhood Greenway, which will begin on N Pete Ellis Dr and span through the Park Ridge Neighborhood along E Longview Ave and E Morningside Dr, ending at N Smith Rd. This greenway will serve as the final link on City streets for the 7-Line route, making it easier for residents on the east side of Bloomington to access downtown. It will also promote outdoor recreation and community engagement by providing a comfortable walking and rolling route to Park Ridge Park. The first public meeting for this project will be held on Wednesday, March 6 from 5:30-6:30pm at Park Ridge Park shelter. Residents can also leave comments via an online Open Comment Form or learn more on the project webpage.

Another project is the E Thornton/E Arden Dr Neighborhood Greenway, which will begin on S Olive St and stretch along E Thornton Dr onto E Arden Dr before ending at S High St. This greenway will complement the upcoming Hawthorne/Weatherstone Neighborhood Greenway, allowing residents to comfortably walk or roll all the way from Jackson Creek Trail to Indiana University's campus. The first public meeting for this project will take place on Wednesday, March 20 from 5:30-6:30pm. Residents can also leave comments via an online Open Comment Form or learn more on the project webpage.

In addition to these greenways, there are plans for traffic calming measures in certain neighborhoods. The W Countryside Ln and Southern Pines Traffic Calming project will coincide with upcoming resurfacing along W Countryside Ln, S Pinehurst Dr, and S Pine Meadows Dr. The City will analyze the existing traffic calming infrastructure and make any necessary changes to create safer streets for all users in these neighborhoods. The first public meeting for this project will be held on Wednesday, February 28 from 5:30-6:30pm at RCA Community Park shelter. Residents can also leave comments via an online Open Comment Form or learn more on the project webpage.

The City of Bloomington is inviting all residents and stakeholders to participate in these public outreach initiatives to shape the future of comfortable and sustainable transportation. These projects aim to create a more connected community for all and promote a healthier lifestyle through walking and biking. The recently constructed neighborhood greenway infrastructure along the W Allen St Neighborhood Greenway serves as an example of the positive impact these projects can have on a community.
