~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington is excited to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 Residents Academy. This program, developed by the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) in 1999, aims to educate residents about city government and encourage civic engagement.

The academy will be held on ten Thursday evenings from August 15 to October 24, from 6-8 pm. Participants can expect interactive presentations by city staff, as well as demonstrations and tours of various city facilities. Previous participants have had the opportunity to tour Switchyard Park and learn about its development from a railway hub to an award-winning park, ride in the bucket of a Bloomington Fire Department aerial ladder truck for a bird's eye view of the city, and experience behind-the-scenes tours of the Bloomington Animal Shelter.

According to Angela Van Rooy, HAND Neighborhood Services Program Manager, "The 2024 Residents Academy promises to be a fun and engaging learning experience." She encourages all Bloomington residents who are 18 years or older to apply for this free program. Additionally, students from Bloomington area high schools who are part of the NextGen Advocacy Program may also apply.
