~ Bloomington Rail Trail Temporarily Closed for Construction of Accessibility and Safety Features

The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department has announced the temporary closure of the Bloomington Rail Trail at the Rogers Street crossing. This closure is necessary for the construction of accessibility and safety features along the trail.

According to officials, the trail will be closed 1.23 miles south of the trailhead on Country Club Drive and .81 mile north of the trailhead at Church Lane. The closure is set to begin on October 20th and is expected to last for up to 30 days. During this time, there will be no detour available around the closure area. However, the Rail Trail spur to the Southern Meadows neighborhood will remain open.

In addition, the Monroe County Highway Department has approved a closure and detour of South Rogers Street at the trail crossing for up to 30 days.

The scope of work at the Rail Trail road crossing includes several important improvements. These include placing a pedestrian-activated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB), installing a new streetlight for increased visibility, creating 12-foot-wide paved trail sections on both sides of the road, and realigning the trail to create a 90-degree crossing at Rogers Street.

The project also involves vegetation removal, site grading, stormwater inlet installation, and final site restoration to ensure long-term functionality and integration with the surrounding landscape along the Bloomington Rail Trail.
