~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington has announced that a roadway improvement project will commence on Monday, August 4. The project will take place along North Walnut Street, starting at the State Road 45 Bypass and continuing north to Old State Road 37. The estimated completion date for the project is November.

Despite the construction, the road will remain open and access to local businesses and residences will be maintained. However, motorists are advised to consider alternate routes if possible.

The project aims to improve safety and traffic flow through various measures such as asphalt resurfacing, curb ramp replacements, curb and guardrail repairs, excess pavement removal, and updated signage and pavement markings. Additionally, a new left turn lane will be installed at Walnut Street and Blue Ridge Drive for southbound traffic turning into the Blue Ridge Neighborhood.

In order to streamline traffic flow, southbound Walnut Street will be reconfigured to a single travel lane through the project limits. This will replace the current merge pattern of one-to-two-to-one lanes.

Funding for this project is provided in part by the Community Crossings Matching Grant program. This program is a partnership between Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and local governments with the goal of investing in road and bridge improvements to strengthen Indiana's transportation network.
