Bloomington: Parks and Recreation Announces Leslie Brinson as Recreation Services Division Director

Bloomington, Ind. ~ Bloomington Parks and Recreation has recently announced the appointment of Leslie Brinson as the new Recreation Services Division Director, effective August 18th. With over 20 years of experience in leadership roles within recreation programming, event planning, and program administration, Brinson brings a wealth of expertise and a strong track record of building community through innovative programs and partnerships.

In her new position, Brinson will play a crucial role in shaping the future of recreation services in Bloomington. She will focus on expanding opportunities for residents and ensuring that core programs are consistently delivered at the highest quality. This includes overseeing popular programs such as Kid City camps, afterschool programs at the Banneker Community Center, and signature events like the Farmers' Market and summer Performing Arts Series.

Tim Street, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, expressed excitement about Brinson's appointment stating, "We are thrilled that Leslie is stepping up into this leadership role. Brinson has been with Bloomington Parks and Recreation since 2017 when she joined as Community Events Manager before being promoted to Recreation Services General Manager. Prior to that, she served as Program/Facility Coordinator at the Banneker Community Center where she oversaw the growth of Bloomington Youth Basketball and managed the Family Resource Center. She holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.

Under Brinson's leadership, Parks and Recreation successfully underwent rigorous reviews by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) in both 2021 and 2025. In 2021, they achieved a perfect score of 154 standards. The results of their most recent accreditation will be announced in October.

Brinson has also taken on leadership roles at both state and national levels through her involvement with the Indiana Park and Recreation Association and the National Recreation and Park Association. During the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, she played a crucial role in steering Parks and Recreation's community events, finding creative solutions to safely provide programs for residents of all ages.

With her extensive experience and proven track record, Brinson is well-equipped to lead Bloomington Parks and Recreation's Recreation Services Division into a bright future filled with innovative programs and strong community partnerships.
