~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington's Department of Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) is offering a new class, R101: Renting in Bloomington, on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. The class will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Dogwood Room of the Indiana Memorial Union located at 900 E. 7th St.
Co-sponsored by HAND, IU Student Legal Services, and IU MoneySmarts in partnership with the Monroe County Apartment Association, this free class aims to educate Bloomington renters on various topics such as tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities, understanding the leasing process, and financial wellness. Speakers from each organization will be present along with representatives from other City departments.

The class also covers important topics such as being a good neighbor and home and personal safety. In addition to valuable information, several local property management companies are offering discounts to individuals who complete the class and subsequently sign a lease with them. A list of participating companies and their discounts can be found on the R101 website.
Preregistration for the class is encouraged. Interested individuals can register and find additional details about the class on the City of Bloomington's website at bton.in/Class. This includes a list of rental properties that offer discounts to graduates of the program.
