Bloomington: Joe VanDeventer named Deputy Director of Public Works

~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington has announced the appointment of Joe VanDeventer as the new Deputy Director of the Public Works Department. This decision was made by Public Works Director Adam Wason, who believes that VanDeventer's extensive experience and dedication to the city make him the perfect fit for this role.

VanDeventer, a seventh-generation resident of Monroe County, has over 20 years of leadership experience in Public Works. He has been a valuable member of the community, actively involved in organizations such as the Indiana Farm Bureau and 4-H of Monroe County.

According to Wason, VanDeventer's previous role as Director of Street Operations since 2014 has prepared him well for this larger position within the department. He is highly respected by his colleagues and peers, making him an ideal candidate for this new role.

The City of Bloomington Common Council approved this new position during the 2026 budget hearings. As Deputy Director, VanDeventer will assist with the overall administration of the Public Works Department, with a focus on overseeing divisions such as Fleet, Sanitation, and Streets. In addition, he will also take on the responsibilities of Director in their absence.

The City is confident that VanDeventer's leadership and expertise will contribute greatly to the success and efficiency of the Public Works Department. His official start date in this new role is January 1st, 2026.
