Bloomington, Ind. ~ The City of Bloomington, Indiana has announced that Griffy Lake Nature Preserve will be closed to the public for two scheduled deer hunts on November 18-19 and December 2-3. The nature preserve will be closed from 11 p.m. on the Friday before the hunt until 5 a.m. on the Monday after the hunt, and only hunters who applied and were selected to participate in the hunt are permitted to hunt at Griffy Lake Nature Preserve.

The goal of these annual deer hunts is to reduce deer browse pressure on understory plants and seedling trees, allowing them to recover and reproduce within the preserve. Parks and Recreation has been actively managing the deer population at Griffy Lake with sharpshoots or hunts since 2017, with data available online at bloomington.in.gov/boards/deertaskforce/griffy-lake.
