Bloomington, Ind. ~ Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department has recently announced updates to the hours of operation and pricing for the Griffy Lake Boathouse for the upcoming 2026 season. These changes are a result of rising operational costs, increased seasonal access, and a continued commitment to providing safe and high-quality recreational opportunities at one of Bloomington's most beloved outdoor destinations.
Starting in April, the boathouse will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. In May through August, it will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. September will see a later opening time of 10 a.m. and closing time of 7 p.m., while October will have the same hours but with a later opening time as well.
With these updated hours comes an increase in watercraft rental prices. Hourly rentals will now cost $12 per hour, up from $10 in the previous year. However, there is now an option for a 10-hour rental punch pass for $100, which offers a $20 savings compared to last year's pass.

Late fees have also been adjusted, with renters now being charged $20 for every 30 minutes that they are overdue instead of a flat late fee.
For those who bring their own watercraft to Griffy Lake, there is an unchanged fee of $10 per day for launch permits. Annual launch permits are also available at $125 for motorized watercraft and $100 for non-motorized watercraft. Additional household permits can be purchased for $30 each.
A new feature for annual launch permits is that if they are still available after Labor Day, they will be sold at a discounted rate of $40 per permit while supplies last.
In order to improve accuracy in rental waivers and ensure the safety of lake users, all renters and launch permit holders will now be required to present a state- or university-issued photo ID. This information will be stored electronically for up to 30 days for safety and operational purposes before being securely deleted.
