Bloomington: Common Council Announces August 14th Consensus-Building Activity Session on Street Homelessness

Trending...
~ The City of Bloomington Common Council is taking action to address the issue of street homelessness by inviting community members, city staff, and social service agencies to participate in a consensus-building activity session. The session, which will be facilitated by the Community Justice and Mediation Center, aims to gather input and ideas from those with interest or experience in this topic.

The meeting will be centered around the question: "What actions should the city council take to address street homelessness and support the work of others addressing street homelessness?" The Council has set specific objectives for this session, including identifying actionable policies, legislation, and funding priorities to combat street homelessness. They also hope to reach a consensus on legislative priorities and budget allocations, as well as identify follow-up actions to make these goals achievable.

According to Council President Isabel Piedmont-Smith, community input is crucial in developing effective and sustainable policies to address street homelessness. She also emphasized that while Mayor Thomson has been actively discussing this issue since taking office, the City Council can also play a positive role in finding solutions. This session will provide an opportunity for the Council to utilize their tools and resources in helping both unhoused residents and the community as a whole.

The session will take place on Wednesday, August 14th at 6:30 pm in City Council Chambers at City Hall. This meeting will replace the Regular Session meeting for that day. Those interested in attending can find more information on the Council's webpage or by emailing council@bloomington.in.gov. The Common Council encourages all community members with an interest or experience in street homelessness to attend and participate in this collaborative discussion.
