Bloomington: Commission on the Status of Black Males to Greet Students on Fairview Elementary First Day

~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington Commission on the Status of Black Males (CSBM) is gearing up for their eighth annual Million Fathers March (MFM) event. On Wednesday, August 7 at 8:30 a.m., CSBM will be joining forces with area fathers, father figures, caregivers, mentors, and role models to welcome students back to school in person at Fairview Elementary School.

Volunteers are encouraged to register for the event at bloomington.in.gov/csbm. In light of the ongoing pandemic, all volunteers will be expected to adhere to health and safety guidelines that will be posted on the registration site.

The Million Fathers March is a national initiative that provides an opportunity for dads, uncles, grandfathers, coaches, mentors, clergy members, men's groups and organizations to show their commitment to the educational lives of their children and children in the community throughout the school year by escorting them to school on the first day.

While this event was originally created for Black men, CSBM is encouraging men and women of all races, nationalities and faith backgrounds to support them by taking their children to school on the first day. Additionally, CSBM is also encouraging males who are unable to join the MFM at Fairview Elementary School to get involved with a local school in other ways and support youth in Bloomington.
