Bloomington: City Offers Downtown Outreach Grants to Local Nonprofits Addressing Opioid Addiction and Recovery

~ Bloomington, IN- Local nonprofit organizations in Bloomington are being given the opportunity to apply for the City's 2026 Downtown Outreach (DTO) grants. These grants, funded through Opioid Restricted and Unrestricted Settlement Funding, aim to support individuals impacted by opioid addiction by providing prevention, treatment, recovery, housing stability, and related services.

The State of Indiana has recognized the severity of the opioid crisis and has partnered with local governments to allocate funds for initiatives that address this issue. In response to this partnership, Bloomington is utilizing these funds to assist organizations that offer direct services to those affected by opioid addiction.

According to data from 2012-2016, 58 counties in Indiana reported opioid prescription rates exceeding 100 prescriptions per 100 residents. This alarming statistic highlights the urgent need for support and resources for those struggling with opioid addiction.

In 2025, the City distributed $244,095 in grants to various nonprofit organizations including Amethyst House, Beacon Inc., Centerstone, Community Kitchen of Monroe County, Change for Sober Living, Monroe County Humane Association, New Hope for Families, New Leaf New Life, and Sojourn House. These organizations have been instrumental in providing crucial services to individuals impacted by opioid addiction.

Applications for the 2026 grant cycle are now available at https://form.jotform.com/CFRDForms/2026DTOGrant and must be submitted by Friday, March 13th at 5 p.m. The grant recipients will be announced on Monday April 6th.
