Bloomington: CITY OF BLOOMINGTON REQUESTS PUBLIC FEEDBACK ON HOPEWELL COMMONS 1% FOR THE ARTS INSTALLATION PROPOSALS

Trending...
~ Bloomington, IN- The City of Bloomington, in collaboration with the Bloomington Arts Commission, is seeking input from the public on proposals for the Hopewell Commons 1 Percent for the Arts Installation. The Commission will utilize this feedback to assist in selecting the artwork that will be displayed at Hopewell Commons.

The four proposed art installations can be viewed by the public on a designated webpage from Monday, June 24th to Friday, July 5th. This opportunity for public involvement comes after a Request for Artist Qualifications was issued in March 2024, inviting artists and artist groups to submit proposals for a signature artwork at Hopewell Commons.

A selection committee comprised of members from the Bloomington Arts Commission, City of Bloomington staff, and community stakeholders will evaluate the proposals based on artistic quality, ability to reflect the welcoming and communal atmosphere of Hopewell Commons, and feasibility of installation. The committee will also take into consideration feedback from the public.

The chosen artwork is expected to be announced by the end of July 2024. The installation is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2024. With a budget of $100,000, funding for this project comes from the City of Bloomington's 1% for the Arts Ordinance. This ordinance requires that a portion of city capital projects' construction costs be allocated towards public art.

This initiative highlights Bloomington's commitment to incorporating art into its public spaces and creating a sense of community through shared experiences. The City encourages all residents to participate in this process and have their voices heard in shaping their city's cultural landscape.
