Bloomington: City Accepting Nominations For Be More Awards Honoring Volunteers

~ Bloomington, IN - The City of Bloomington is calling on community members to nominate exceptional volunteers for the Be More Awards. These awards, presented by the City's Volunteer Network program, recognize individuals and groups who have made a significant impact through their volunteer work.

Nominations are currently being accepted until March 8th, 2024. Members of the general public, community organizations, and businesses are all encouraged to submit nominations. The Be More Awards will be given in seven categories, each with its own unique criteria.

The first award, Be More Bloomington, will be presented to an individual or group who has shown excellence in responding to community challenges in 2023. Examples of these challenges include justice issues, violence reduction efforts, immigration concerns, and homelessness.

The Be More Creative Award will honor volunteers who have made a difference within the arts community. The Be More Dedicated Award will recognize an individual or couple over the age of 60 for their lifetime of service. The Be More Energized Award will go to an individual or group under the age of 25 who has shown enthusiasm and dedication to volunteering.

The Be More Engaged Award will be given to an individual or group employed at a business or organization that actively participates in volunteer activities and programs on behalf of their employer. The Be More Impactful Award will honor the volunteer or volunteer group of the year for their significant contributions. Lastly, the Be More Phenomenal Award will be presented to someone who has demonstrated outstanding leadership through board, commission, or committee involvement.

Each recipient of a Be More Award will receive a $1,000 cash prize provided by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County for their nonprofit organization in recognition of their exceptional service.

All nominations will be screened by Volunteer Network staff to ensure they meet all criteria before being reviewed by the selection committee. This committee is made up of impartial philanthropic leaders who generously donate their time and energy to support this program. To maintain fairness, committee members will not review any nominations from organizations with which they have a personal or professional relationship.

The 2024 Be More Award recipients will be celebrated at a special ceremony on April 25th at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. This event is co-sponsored by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department, Indiana University Credit Union, United Way of South Central Indiana, and WTIU Public Television.
