INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 11, 2024 ~ As the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton continues to impact communities across the United States, the American Legion National Executive Committee has pledged their support for those affected. During a two-day meeting in Indianapolis, American Legion National James A. LaCoursiere addressed senior volunteers and emphasized the organization's commitment to helping victims of these natural disasters.
"We are truly an American Legion Family, and we are there for you – hearts, minds, prayers and physically, we are there for you," LaCoursiere stated to the committee. He urged members to remember their duty to serve others and called for them to conduct "buddy checks," where veterans and friends personally check on the wellbeing of others who have served in the military.

In addition to this outreach effort, LaCoursiere announced that The American Legion stands ready to assist Legionnaires, posts, and Sons of The American Legion members with National Emergency Fund (NEF) grants. The NEF was established in 1989 and has since awarded over $10 million to veterans and military members impacted by declared natural disasters.
The organization also offers Temporary Financial Assistance grants for Legion members and active duty servicemembers with minor children in their homes. These grants provide financial support during times of need.
More information about these programs and other forms of assistance can be found on The American Legion's website at www.legion.org. As always, the organization remains dedicated to serving those who have served our country and will continue to put service before self during times of crisis.
