~ The Bloomington Arts Commission (BAC) and the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Association (BUEA) have announced the release of applications for the 2026 Arts Project Grants. This grant, one of three cycles released by the City each year, aims to support public-facing projects and programming in Bloomington or Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) schools.

With a history of supporting a diverse range of activities and disciplines such as music festivals, film, theatre, arts supplies, recordings, poetry series, and pop-up galleries, the project grants have been a vital source of funding for local artists and arts organizations. Gerard Pannekoek, BAC Grants Committee Co-chair expressed gratitude towards the City Council and BUEA for their continued support in sustaining a high level of funding for the grants program. In 2026, the BAC will allocate $190,000 in grants with funds from both the City's annual budget in the Economic & Sustainable Development Department and BUEA's annual budget. As part of their commitment to supporting applicants through the process, Bloomington Arts Commissioners will offer technical support on a first-come, first-served basis during the application period. Interested individuals can schedule an appointment with a commissioner by contacting Paige Sharp, Arts Consultant and liaison to the Bloomington Arts Commission.

Established in 1980, the BAC plays a crucial role in stimulating community appreciation for and participation in the arts. It also provides leadership in grantmaking and public arts programs within Bloomington. On the other hand, BUEA is a public-private partnership with its own budget derived from participation fees. The organization aims to improve the economic, physical, and social environment for Zone residents and businesses. It has been a significant supporter of arts initiatives in the zone, which includes much of Bloomington's downtown and B-Line corridor.

The deadline for applications is Thursday, April 23, and interested individuals are encouraged to apply for a chance to receive up to $4,000 in funding for their projects.
